Fury’s Father: If Camp is Done Right, Wilder Will Be No Threat

Boxing Scene

John Fury, the father of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says his son is looking to unify the entire weight class in 2021.

Fury will defend his belt against Deontay Wilder on October 9th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

And, Anthony Joshua will defend his WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.

If Fury does his training camp with no issues, his father indicates that Wilder will present no issues for them.

“He’s trying to get Joshua in December. We’re going for that fight this year. Because we see Wilder as no threat at all once he’s done the camp right. If he’s done everything right to the letter, Wilder ain’t a problem, he’s got his number, beat him twice, beat him like a ragdoll, beat him to a pulp last time. Wilder has got nothing to offer him at all, only that big punch,” John Fury told Give Me Sport.

“And believe me, what I’m seeing in the new trainer [for Wilder, Malik Scott], we know a lot about him as well, so we’ve got no fear at all.”

Back in February 2020, Fury dominated and stopped Wilder in seven rounds to capture the WBC title at the MGM Grand.

Team Fury want Joshua, should he beat Usyk. If Joshua wins, a fight with Fury would be unlikely to take place this year.

“He’s concentrating on Wilder first. AJ won’t even play a part in his mind at the moment because he’s thinking about Wilder. But yeah, get him out the way, AJ here we come,” John Fury said.
