Hearn: Canelo-GGG Buildup Will Be Unbelievable, They Can’t Stand Each Other

Boxing Scene

Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is very much looking forward to the tense buildup for the trilogy fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin.

The two champions fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in 2017.

A year later, they met for a second time with Canelo winning a very close twelve round majority decision over Golovkin to capture the middleweight crown.

Canelo recently signed a two fight agreement with Hearn.

The first bout will take place on May 7 in Las Vegas – when Canelo moves up in weight to take on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

And then in September, Canelo will face Golovkin in a trilogy bout.

Golovkin, who holds the WBA, IBO titles at middleweight, will return to the ring next month in Japan against WBA champion Ryota Murata.

Should Golovkin win, he will then move up to super middleweight to challenge Canelo for his undisputed crown at 168.

“I’m telling you now, the build-up to Canelo versus GGG 3 will be unbelievable. They can’t stand each other. In the past, they never really wanted to say anything, but now they don’t really care what they say. I want both guys to look great as it builds up towards the biggest fight in boxing,” Hearn told Fighthype.com.

Canelo recently made it clear that his rivalry with Golovkin is indeed personal, but the first order of business is to handle the upcoming bout with Bivol.

“Yeah. He talks a lot of sh!t. He talked a lot of things, but we’re gonna see. First things first, right, we need to win May 7th. I’m focused 100 percent on this fight. It’s not an easy fight, it’s a hard fight for me, 100 percent on this fight and then we’ll talk about that fight,” Canelo said.
