‘I was seeing double’: Sunny Edwards has fractured orbital after fight with “Bam” Rodriguez

Sunny Edwards suffered a medial orbital fracture in his Saturday night loss to Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, and posted a photo from the hospital on social media after the bout.

“Left eye went in the [second round] from a sharp jab,” Edwards wrote. “Was seeing double the majority of the fight. Enjoyed every moment of the event, grateful to be a part of it all.

“[‘Bam’ Rodriguez], congratulations and well done on a great performance, [I’ve] been boxing 18 years and it’s never been like that.”

Edwards apologized to supporters for not continuing after the ninth round, but said he was “genuinely worried for [his] eyesight.”

“From the [second round] I was seeing double out of my left eye,” he added. “I couldn’t gauge if he was in or out of range and I was getting caught at the edge of distance.

“Started throwing any time I knew he was there, ended up getting me cut and then put down. Is what it is, got beaten by the better man.”

Edwards also didn’t blame his trainer for stopping the fight.

“He told me at the end of the [eighth round] he wanted to stop it. I was shocked, I said it weren’t that hard. He said I can’t see what my face looks like. Decided then [I’m going to] go out and try [to] make something happen, that got me caught [with the knockdown].

“[I] told him the truth, I couldn’t see him properly and he waved it off.”

The 27-year-old Edwards (20-1, 4 KO) also says he’s up for returning at 108, 112, or 115 when he’s recovered.

“Real fights only,” he said to promoter Eddie Hearn.
