Panel: Should the duration of women’s fights be extended?

Karriss Artingstall (Featherweight contender)

You’ve got females who are capable of doing the longer distance, but the vast majority are not. The entertainment would drop massively. I’ve watched some fights, and I wouldn’t like to watch them over a longer format. I watch some fights and think, “I wish this would hurry up and finish.”

Emma Dolan (Commonwealth champion)

If you’re going to change you need to change it across the board. You can’t have three-minute rounds for championship fights and everything else is two minutes. I think it should be three minutes. You’ll get quality work from a lot of fighters over three minutes, it’s not going to be as rushed.

Nina Hughes (Bantamweight belt-holder)

While women’s boxing is still on the rise and trying to gain a bigger audience, two-minute rounds makes it more exciting. Two minutes makes what could be boring more exciting because the pace is faster. Maybe it should be a gradual process, maybe 12-twos first.

Maisey Rose Courtney (Flyweight prospect)

How far do men and women run in marathon? We run 26.2 miles, the same distance as men. I don’t understand why we have to fight 10-two-minute rounds. Will it change the outcome of a lot fights? Yeah, absolutely. A lot of people would get found out.
