Pete Dobson Stays Busy, Targets Bouts With Marku, Mielnicki, Calderon

Boxing Scene

Hailing from the Boogie Down Bronx, fighter “Pistol” Pete Dobson may just be the best fighter out of New York City that you have never heard about.

In the city in which stars are created under the bright lights at Madison Square Garden and the Barclay’s Center often times fighting perfectly designated opponents, some guys have a different route.

Enter Dobson, who was a perfect 15-0 coming into this past Saturday’s contest against Rodrigo Coria. Dobson, has made a habit of fighting the fights that most would consider “step up” or “risky” for a fighter in the early stages of their career.

Fresh off of a clean shutout performance against Jose Miguel Borrego in February, the Bronx Bomber returned Saturday against Coria in an 8 round attraction in Atlanta. Coria, a multi-time national amateur champion in his native Argentina gave a valiant effort relying heavily on footwork and his awkward style in an attempt to throw off the undefeated Dobson.

Ultimately “Pistol Pete” proved once again that he may perhaps be right in his self assessment as he landed the much bigger, and more effective shots en route to an impressive unanimous decision victory.

After getting his hand raised on Saturday Dobson was asked what’s next. Peter responded with, “come on son, you know I’ll fight tomorrow against whomever. I’ve went on record before saying names, but I’m happy to do it again. Give me Florian Marku in the UK. I’ll drill him. Give me Vito Mielnicki Jr in New Jersey. Give me Harold Calderon in Miami. Give me anyone in their backyard. I really don’t care”.

The New York confidence permeates from Peter. The undefeated fighter has spent his time training in South Florida with Bay to Bay Boxing under the guidance of Jeff Poritz as well as recently involving the nationally accredited Headbangers head coach Barry Hunter.

“Collectively we believe Pete can be in big fights in the next year. Ugas, Danny Garcia, Thurman, etc.” added Dobson’s manager Ryan Rickey, as his fighter nodded in agreement.
