Rapid-fire Turner Impresses, Victories For Sains, Crolla, And Scott In Manchester

Boxing Scene

Jack Turner, Liverpool’s hot bantamweight prospect is now 6-0 with six first-round victories having dropped Abdul Kesi Ngaoma twice on his way to another rapid victory on the Jordan Gill-Zelfa Barrett undercard in the Manchester Arena.

Ngaoma was down in the first 30 seconds from a right hand and threatened to be overwhelmed as Turner swarmed forwards, working over the head and body and then Turner crashed home a sweeping left hook that sent the Tanzanian sprawling.

Referee Mark Lyson waved it off, as the visitor protested, but the gap in class and power had already revealed itself after just 74 seconds.

“I’m happy. I’ve been working on things in the gym and it just showed,” said Turner.

“I’m really excited for this kid,” added trainer Joe McNally.

Ngaoma is now 7-6-1 (6 KOs).

Tony Sims-trained middleweight Jimmy Sains improved to 4-0 with a steady beating of Poland’s game Mateusz Kalecki.

Heads clashed in the first round and the visitor wore a bloody mask for the remainder of the contest.

Kalecki was, in some respects, too tough for his own good. Sains poured on the pressure, dominating thoroughly while working the head and body.

Kalecki was often in reverse, and his corner would have been forgiven for pulling him out in the fourth as it became incredibly one-sided and it was left to referee Steve Gray to step in and pull out the Pole with 13 seconds remaining in the session.

Kalecki is now 2-3.

William Crolla, super welterweight brother of former lightweight champion Anthony, improved to 5-0 (4 KOs) following a first-round bodyshot knockout of Falcone Cascone.

Crolla was switching stances early but found a home for a couple of lefts to the body from the orthodox stance and the second one dropped the Italian to his knee where he listened to the count. Time of the stoppage was 1:11 Cascone is now 4-10 (1 KO).

In the show-opener, featherweight Brandon Scott won a good learning fight 58-56 over Argentine Rodrigo Matias Areco.
